Everyone knows about Christmas carols, but Advent is its own season – one of yearning and hoping for God’s intervention in this world.
The church begins in darkness, but in the darkness we hear the voice of the prophets of old, foretelling the coming of a Messiah.
As the service continues, so the light begins to strengthen and grow, as we celebrate God’s faithful fulfillment of those promises. In celebration, we find hope again for our own time – that the full flourishing of all things is (even now, both through us and in spite of us) being brought to pass by this same faithful God.
